Still round the corner there may wait, A new road or a secret gate.
J. R. R. Tolkien

Gates in the landscape often send mixed messages – some welcome, some forbid and still others, protect. All, however, serve as vestibules to the imagination. Think of all the pastoral passages in literature and the enchanting entries into adventure that began once they were opened. Whether it was Alice’s rabbit hole to Wonderland or Mary Lenox’s door to the Secret Garden, these portals offered passage into hitherto unknown universes. Gates always hold tempting promise and all that is required is bold courage to touch the latch.

Open the gate and go in. Perhaps even Eden awaits.

Love this post. Visually beautiful plus it piques the imagination.

Love the quote you chose for this post! And you chose pictures of the gates very well. I was imagining all kinds of scenarios of what’s behind each one.
