Sometimes we all need a little support. To reach further, a sturdy and trusted arm is often a welcome guide. A supporting spirit buttresses us, allowing us to reach just a bit further out of our comfort zones. We can do amazing things knowing something or someone has got our back.
Houses are no different. When a design calls for a cantilevered appendage (such as a porch, bay or balcony) to be projected, bracketing is a structural necessity. These can be rejoiced and celebrated – underpinnings are certainly functional defiances of physics but they can also be decorative as well, some even whimsical.
The gesture of elevation is a sacred one and that expression should be honored. Be fearless and hang out there. Something’s got you.
